About Me

Cristina_edited.jpg

As a Brazilian-Canadian professional, I have over fourteen years of experience working with children and families in non-profit organizations and private practice. I have completed my Master's Degree in Social Work in the Pontifical University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and complemented my studies in the University of California, Berkeley, and in the City University of Seattle, USA.

The various roles we play throughout our lives bring unique joys and opportunities for growth. My favourite roles include being a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a wife, a mom, and a therapist. From all of those experiences, being a mom of two precious kids has been one of the highlights of my journey, and it has deepened my respect and appreciation for children, and for the grown ups who love them.

This has led me to expand my areas of competency, enabling me to work with children and adolescents, in addition to adults. It gives me joy to share that my youngest client to date was a bright 4 year-old boy, and the oldest one, a dedicated 67 year-old grandmother.

My approach to therapy involves the use of various psychotherapies based on client's needs. I draw mostly from the cognitive-behavioral therapy, emotion-focused therapy, attachment theory, and family systems. I also provide play therapy and art therapy for children. My work is trauma-informed, gender-sensitive and informed by social justice theories and practices.
